Paralia Boat Neck Top

I made this top for myself back int he summer 2023 in Greece. I was riding the bike from home to work everyday, so I needed an easy-wear top that went well with all my shorts. Something casual, but no the boring T-shirt style…I wanted something extra, a touch of elegance so I didn’t look so sporty…after all I did have a bunch of heeled sandals lined up in my closet to be shown off 😀

So I came up with this simple blouse pattern! I drafted this boatneck top sewing pattern and made it in a mint colored cotton jersey fabric. After a while I caught myself wearing it more and more often…I paired it with all my shorts, skirts and long trousers easily…it was a no brainer, so easy to put on and still look semi-smart, semi casual!

After moving to Mexico in September 2023 (you can read about this more here 🙂 ) I was missing sewing soooo much! I was also over-wearing this top made of boatneck top sewing pattern. So I was searching for opportunities to rent a sewing machine somewhere (I couldn’t buy my own as I was still on the hunt for my new home where I could settle down). After not finding anything I thought “THAT’S IT, I MAKING IT BY HAND, I DON’T CARE!”

Previously, I found a really nice fabric shop in Veracruz, México. I ended up buying a bunch of new colorful fabrics, even though I had no more space left in my suitcase! Many of them were jersey materials. The red top you see int he photos is one of them!

So I printed this simple blouse pattern, assembled it, cut out the fabric pieces along the pattern lines and started making the top by hand. I was surprised to see how nicely it turned out! My hand-stitching skills weren’t sooo advanced, but I was able to make this top MUCH NICER BY HAND, THAN BY MACHINE! And in a relatively short amount of time! Not to mention, I enjoyed working on it, it’s just such a relaxing and calming activity!

Sooooo, that’s when I decided to share this experience with all of you, to encourage you to try to do the same! There is no more rewarding feeling than having to wear your own creation.! What else reflect your true personality than a handmade piece of clothing, prepared BY YOU???

AND DON’T GET DISCOURAGED FROM NOT KNOWING HOW TO SEW! OR NOT HAVING THE MACHINERY FOR IT AT HOME, I DID IT WITHOUT IT….AND SO CAN YOU!!!
